Steven D. Shapiro, M.D. is a Board-Certified Dermatologist who
specializes in multiple laser procedures, reconstructive skin cancer surgery
and the latest in cosmetic and dermatologic procedures.
Dr. Shapiro received his degree in medicine from UMDNJ New Jersey
Medical School. His internship was completed at Hahnemann University
followed by his residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine
where he currently is a voluntary Assistant Professor in the Department of
Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery and a member of the Residency
Advisory Board. Dr. Shapiro is Board Certified by the American Board of
Dermatology. He is an active member of the American Society of Mohs
Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society of
Dermatology, the Florida Society of Dermatology, American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery,
International Society of Police Surgeons and the Palm Beach County Medical Society. He is Chairman of
the Board for Healthcare Underwriters' Group (HUG), a physician owned medical malpractice company.
Dr. Shapiro performs various clinical studies for 'repair' of skin conditions including photorejuvenation.
He is an expert commentator for various television stations.


Michael T. Borenstein, M.D., Ph.D. is a Board-Certified Dermatologist who
specializes in Medical and Surgical Dermatology, as well as the latest techniques in
laser treatments and Cosmetic Dermatology.
Dr. Borenstein received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University and
his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr.
Borenstein joined Gardens Dermatology after completeing his internship in
Internal Medicine and residency in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the
University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Borenstein completed his Ph.D. in
Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the University of Miami. Dr. Borenstein is
an active member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of
Dermatology, Florida Society of Dermatology, theFlorida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, and the
Palm Beach County Dermatology Society.
Susan M. Mata, M.D. is a Board-Certified Dermatologist who specializes in
Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, and the latest advancements in non-invasive
cosmetic procedures and skin rejuvenation. She received her degree in Medicine from
the University of Miami where she also completed her Internship and Residency. Dr.
Mata is Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the
American Medical Association, the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, the
American Academy of Dermatology, the Florida Dermatology Society, and the
American Society of Mohs Surgery where she received her fellow membership in June
2006. Dr. Mata speaks Spanish fluently.
Denise C. Hayes, A.R.N.P. is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
specializing in General Dermatology, Cosmetic Dermatology, Dermatologic
Surgery, and Skin Rejuvenation. Denise has been practicing since 2000 at Gardens
Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Denise also provides Dermatologic services to several nursing homes and assisted
living facilities in the area. She compliments her dermatology career with over 20
yearsof medical experience. Denise received her Master of Science and Post
Master's Certificate with High Honors ranking #1 in her class. Her Academic Honor
Societies include Sigma Theta Tau International and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Denise is
an active member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners, and the American College of Nurse Practitioners. Denise has been a resident of Palm Beach
Gardens since 1962.
Dr. Shapiro, Dr. Borenstein, and Dr. Mata are all fellows of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Carlin Stob-Rykse is a Licensed Medical Aesthetician specializing in non-invasive
aesthetic procedures such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and
micropigmentation including permanent makeup. She also specializes in camouflage
and restorative work for breast cancer patients who have undergone breast
reconstruction. Carlin received her training under Dr. Linda Dixon, a renowned
expert in the field of micropigmentation, and has been practicing for over seven
years. She has also worked as a patient coordinator and surgical consultant. Carlin
graduated with honors from Palm Beach Atlantic University and holds a B.S.
degree in Organizational Management.
Carlin has been with Gardens Dermatology since 2003, is married, has two grown children and two
grandchildren.
